“There were about 3,700 sleep-related deaths among U.S. babies in 2022. CDC supports the recommendations issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to reduce the risk of all sleep-related infant deaths. They state in the article on How to Keep Your Sleeping Baby Safe.

One major recommendation they give is “Babies who sleep on their backs are much less likely to die suddenly and unexpectedly than babies who sleep on their stomachs or sides. The side position is just as dangerous as the stomach position, partly because your baby can roll more easily onto their stomach when they are placed on their side.”
